The splitting of white light into its component colours is called dispersion of light. Sunlight is often called white light, although it is a combination of different colors. We can see these colours in a rainbow. These colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. In physics, the term light sometimes refers to electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, whether visible or not. In this sense, gamma rays, X-rays, microwaves and radio waves are also light.
